Attention to Detail
We are well versed in art history and culture. We make sure to go above and beyond in researching your project through consultations (free of charge of course), and historical research should it call for it. While each of us has their own style and interests, we enjoy employing different and unique techniques into our art. We focus on composition as a whole, ensuring your tattoo is readable from an appropriate distance and that it stands the test of time. Our artists consult with each client before each project is tattooed. We aren't focused on getting you in the chair just to take your money; we're not a "street shop." We want to create something that matches your personality and describes the things that are important to you visually. Consultation ensures that both artist and client work out the details for the tattoo and are visually and mentally on the same page. Tattooing can be a very personal process, we promise to be there every step of the way.
Each of us has our own unique flair and style of art. It's beneficial to both artist and client that you check out the portfolios and find the artist that will suit your needs for your project. Each of us has a direction that we're currently taking our art and our body of work will reflect our current artistic path. Please note that each artists style will reflect in the outcome of your final design. We hope you enjoy our work and we're sure you'll find our tattoos versatile and universally different than most other local shops.
We specialize in tattoos that are: Black and grey, Color, Realism, Illustrative, Traditional, Contemporary.

Yesterday I got my third tattoo with a few of my friends. It was my first time getting a tattoo away from home and 1001 Troubles was amazing. It was extremely clean and an enjoyable experience. My tattoo artist was Fredd. He helped design what I wanted and was very understanding when I was being picky and probably annoying. He was talkative and made us feel at ease. His design was amazing and I'm so thankful for it. If anyone out there is looking for a great place to get a tattoo, 1001 Troubles is where you should go!
I went there after a recommendation from a friend. I was so pleased! Michelle tattooed me both times and she was so great-- always asking how I'm doing and asking me about my interests. I love the environment and can't wait to get more!
Gorgeous tattoos from Fredd and Michelle! Great atmosphere and energy
Would recommend for people looking for their first tattoo or to add to their large collection. The place is very nice and clean and welcoming! They're all very nice and totally easy to talk to. Not to mention their work is absolutely incredible and beautiful. I do not hesitate to recommend anyone to go there!

Fredd Cheetham and Michelle Carter started their tattoo careers in Rhode Island in 2010. After earning BFAs in Illustration from the University of Massachusetts and completing apprenticeships, Fredd and Michelle decided to go into business together and haven't looked back. They opened 1001 Troubles Tattoo in 2013. Named after the infamous amusement park once located on Island Park in Portsmouth RI, the two eventually ventured to the quaint and quirky little town of Warren RI. Eventually they picked up Dani Ryan in the beginning of 2016, a talented RISD graduate who pursued a traditional apprenticeship with Fredd as her mentor.
Together, these 3 have become like a close family and strive to become better artists and people. They each add a small amount of experience, wisdom, and personality into each tattoo they make.
